"Foggy with a Chance of Flowers" Pre-reception Artist Talk - Thursday, June 17, 5:30 pm - 6 pm Meet Beth prior to the opening and she will guide you through the exhibition and talk about her process and technique. Gallery645 is excited to announce the upcoming solo exhibition featuring the stunning new work of Beth Weintraub, "Foggy with a Chance of Flowers". Weintraub's 2010 Collection grew from her musings over the curvy borders, seductive jewels, flowing hair, and lush backgrounds of the early 1900 works of Art Nouveau painter Alfonse Mucha. Within his depictions of beautiful women modeling boldly, and seductively for products seen as 'freeing' to women, he layered a compulsive fondness for romanticized flowers and whiplash curves. In these etchings, Weintraub seeks to amplify the small details of this style that are often overlooked by casual observation. Educated at Sarah Lawrence College in the 1980's, Beth Weintraub studied writing, theatrical production and Intaglio etching. Working for Broadway costume designers in New York for several years, Weintraub came to California where she spent five seasons at the San Francisco Opera sculpting body armor and masks. Leaving the Opera to begin working as an artist full time, etchings became her focus. By utilizing the etched metal as well as the prints, Weintraub has revealed both sides of the etching process, rejecting the idea that printing is only for repetitious editions of identical paper images. In doing so, Weintraub has created singular one-of-a-kind prints. Come celebrate the extraordinary works of Beth Weintraub @ Gallery 645 and join us for an exciting evening with friends, art, food and music!
